Two more days!

“Two more days… just two more days!”

Those were the first words spoken this morning when Connor woke. He’s very excited. Two more days and he turns seventeen. And we better be prepared to celebrate this special holiday that trails Christmas and New Year’s. I bet you didn’t realize that “Happy Holidays” included Connor’s birthday.

Seventeen years old. Amazing.

Seventeen years ago today I longed to see my little guy, wondering when he’d make an appearance, wondering who he’d look like… would he have traits of mine, or maybe more of Chris’s? Would he be like his older brother? Who would he grow to be? What would he do in life? What kind of friends would he have? Would he have special talents? What career path would he take? How would he change the dynamics of the family?

I anticipated the arrival with complete excitement, longing to meet the baby who would be named Connor, to love, to cuddle, nurture and look into his eyes. I didn’t know seventeen years ago today, that his eyes would peer back at me with just a little “extra something”.

And that’s just fine with me. Because seventeen years ago today, God wanted me to meet my baby before I met his disability. I’m glad He planned it that way.

TWO MORE DAYS!
